The Commencement Exercise
All participating candidates should be in their caps and gowns and at the Nisbett Center at least one hour prior to the start of the ceremony to check-in and line-up for the processional. There will be staff and volunteers at the ceremony to assist you with instructions and answer your questions. All graduates must stay for the entire ceremony.
Motlow State is not responsible for your valuables (cell phones, cameras, purses, etc.). We recommend that you lock valuables in your car or leave them with family or friends.
Attire for Commencement
Candidates are expected to dress professionally and comfortably. Academic regalia including cap and gown with approved stoles, sashes, and cords are required for the ceremony. Caps may be decorated within reason as long as the decoration does not detract from the event. Motlow employees have the right to exclude a student from participating should they come dressed inappropriately. It is recommended that the gown be hung up before wearing on graduation day.
Caps and gowns can be picked up through April 26 at the Admissions and Records office at the Moore County campus or at the front office at the Smyrna, McMinnville and Fayetteville campuses.
Provided you have met all requirements for graduation and you have no holds on your account, diplomas will be mailed 6 to 8 weeks after final grades have posted.
All candidates must fulfill all financial obligations to the College prior to receiving your diploma.
Please ensure we have your correct mailing address on file. If we do not have your correct address, you must submit a "Change of Address" form to the Admissions and Records Office.
Participation in the commencement ceremony does not mean you have graduated from Motlow State! Final grades and final evaluations need to be completed prior to the granting of the degree/certificate. All course substitutions, final grades, exit exam (if applicable) and other college obligations must be completed by the end of your graduating term or the posting of your degree will be extended to future terms.
There are no tickets required. All seating is in the bleachers with the exception of Special Seating (See below). Guests may seat themselves on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to safety hazards, strollers must not block isles or seats.

Guests needing special accommodations will need to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event in order to secure seating as well as to avoid the crowds in the parking lot and facility lobby.
Please feel free to bring your cameras to take photos. To comply with safety regulations, the aisles must remain clear at all times, especially during the processional and recessional.
